I'm back on Oahu for the summer, and I have had difficulty finding Wray & Nephew overproof rum for falernum. Rather than buy Bacardi 151, I took a chance and bought Braddah Kimo's Da Bomb Rum, which is labeled like a bottom shelf product but apparently won some awards.
This stuff is great! It has the same kind of funky green apple flavor that predominates Wray & Nephew, only there is a little more caramel sweetness (strange for a clear rum) and Braddah Kimo's is somehow a little smoother.
Braddah Kimo's wound up making really good allspice dram and falernum, and it's totally worth $20. I would definitely recommend it as an alternative to other overproof rums when making liqueurs.
